Since the school start in Sept. 2015 through March 4th 2016 we have completed a total of 23 groups. We still have another 12 groups already scheduled for the Spring B.A.B.E.S. calendar, to be completed By mid-May.

The war against drug abuse has been prevalent for quite some time, with inner city youth being the main targets for money hungry drug dealers. In an effort to combat substance abuse in young people, Beginning Awareness Basic Education Studies (BABESWORLD) was created. A few students from Renaissance High School took advantage of the opportunity to be a part of the program.

Lee Anne Aluotto, Addictions Counselor at Spring Branch Integrated School District (ISD), was successful in advocating to introduce BABES within that school district. Accordingly, BABES World Home is in process of becoming a consulting provider to the school district. Once approved, BABES World Home will provide training to Spring Branch ISD for all 5 curricula within the BABES Lessons in Living Life Skills I: Substance Disorder Prevention program.

Welcome to BABES World, Lee Anne and the Spring Branch ISD!

Joey Sanchez and Mildred Demmert of the Pueblo Department of Education, and Rita Cantsee of the Navajo Nation Department of Behavioral Health/Prevention are working with BABES World Home to develop a 5-day BABES Training program in Santa Ana, Arizona in late April. This joint BABES training will involve 2 days of certification activity for BABES Trainers, 2 days of BABES Presenter Training, and 1 day of Suicide Prevention activities, which will involve both the BABES Trainers and Presenters. It is expected that a group of 17 to 20 Pueblo and Navajos will be trained during the 5-day BABES Training program.

Rev. Dr. Lottie Jones Hood, BABES Founder and CEO will be present in Santa Ana and will introduce the new Suicide module which has been develop in partnership with the Navajo Nation Department of Behavioral Health/Prevention group.

Renaissance High School (RHS) is one of Detroit’s premier high schools, offering a rigorous college preparatory curriculum within a unique college-like setting. RHS has been recognized consistently by the State of Michigan as well as nationally as a “Blue-Ribbon School of Excellence.” RHS students will be undergoing BABES training in January of 2016.

The Navajo Nation was first introduced to the Beginning Awareness Basic Education Studies (BABES) program in 1990, when ___ Department of Behavioral Health Services prevention specialists were trained as BABES presenters. Over the past 25 years, many Navajo BABES, both “young at age”, and “young at heart”, have grown up with the positive life skills learned through the insightful and impactful stories involving those seven delightful BABES puppets named Buttons, Bows, Myth Mary, Early Bird, Donovan Dignity, Recovering Reggie, and Rhonda Rabbit.
