Of all of the aspects related to drug dependency, children of drug dependent persons are the most overlooked. There are millions of children of alcoholics in the United States. Studies show that millions of these offspring will become dependent themselves. Not only is it important to understand that drug dependency and alcoholism are illnesses, it is also important to be aware of the problems experienced by the child who is exposed to this environment. Many young people will go into adulthood permanently scarred by the experience.
Preventing the damage caused from living in a drug dependent environment should be addressed. This lesson is designed to be part of that process.
