The Gathering of Nations (GON) is a grand 3-day Native American event held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, featuring pageantry, dance, singing, cultural exchange and special shopping experiences involving artists, crafters and traders from around the world.
BABES was fortunate to secure a vendor booth, which was well visited by several hundred GON attendees. The BABES booth was staffed by Rev. Lottie, Deborah Smith and Al Rice. During the event, the BABES team was able to present the BABES program, hand out materials and provide information for BABES advocacy, future contact and follow up.
The beautiful booth displays and colorful puppets were major attractions to the kids. Many of the “young in age” and “young at heart” wanted to hear the BABES stories, touch the cute little puppets and watch the cycling BABES Around the World and Wrapping Up videos. Several attendees were former little BABES, remembering BABES presentations in their youth. Also visiting the BABES booth were current and former BABES Presenters who shared amazing and touching stories about their BABES experiences.
All booth attendees were asked to visit the www.babesworld.org website and post their bio and contact information for the BABES Census or for future contact to bring BABES to their organizations. Overall, the Gathering of Nations Pow Wow was a very beneficial experience.
