BABES Presents at Faith Community Nursing Meeting

By: Crystal Mayo, BABES COO

BABES’ COO Crystal Mayo presents before group.

On Thursday, November 1st, Faith-Based BABES (also known as BABES at Worship) was presented before members of Henry Ford Macomb Hospital’s Faith Community Nursing at their monthly meeting.

It was a great opportunity to introduce this component of Building a BABES Community for the purpose of offering BABES training (which includes Faith-Based BABES) to those members who represented various churches.

Faith-based BABES was created to work with the religious community (regardless of faith) to ultimately place them in a position to assist in the nurturing of the communities where they provide religious services. This component of BABES utilizes a curriculum designed to convert the BABES messages into lessons suitable for any faith-based environment.

During the presentation, BABES’ Board President, Yvonne Knox, joined me in introducing the BABES puppets and demonstrated by example how various Bible stories actually relate to the BABES’ lessons.

“It never fails to amaze me how the puppets always touch the hearts of adults just as much as children,” recalls Knox. BABES also offered to any churches within the Renaissance High School area free training, as we are in the process of Building a BABES Community in this area.

At the monthly meetings held by Henry Ford Macomb Hospitals Faith Community Nursing members, their mission is to develop and support ministries of health, wellness and healing; work collaboratively with congregations and other community entities to fulfill mutual goals; demonstrate measurable outcomes that promote preventive health and self-care, and improve access, integration, and utilization of health resources; and build the capacity of health teams to be self-sustaining services and resources to their community.

The criteria for membership is that congregations have a formal written agreement with qualified faith community nurse/lay health ministry leader and congregations and also sign a formal agreement with Henry Ford Health System.
