On Monday, August 27th, BABESWORLD hosted the Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority’s Faith-Based Committee at PREVENTION PLACE in the MoM (Magic of Your Mind) Training Center in Southfield, Michigan. The meeting was kicked-off with fried chicken and waffles, scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, grits, hash browns, and a fresh fruit salad.
Committee members meet monthly with the purpose of connecting faith-based leaders with educators, researchers and professionals within a network to create progressive dialogue and to address real concerns that faith-based organizations face within the communities they serve.
Among the issues addressed were addiction, prevention and treatment, along with human-trafficking, gambling and youth engagement. During the meeting, there was also conversation around children’s well-being in regards to Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE).
Rev. Dr. Kevin Turman of Second Baptist Church of Detroit addressed the group on how to incorporate Faith-Based BABES within the churches. Faith-Based BABES was created in 1987 to utilize a curriculum designed to convert the BABES messages into lessons suitable for any faith-based environment.
A special thanks to DWMHA staff Darlene Owens, SUD Director and Karra Thomas, SUD Prevention.
BABESWORLD’s home office is located within the NCADD headquarters in Wayne County, Michigan.
