On Tuesday, May 1st, BABESWORLD officially opened its Oakland County site in the Northland Towers, Southfield, MI. “It has always been a dream of mine to open a PREVENTION PLACE for “The young in age and the young at heart,” says BABES Founder, CEO and President Dr. Lottie Jones Hood. BABESWORLD will maintain its Wayne County site (its home office) on E. McNichols in Detroit.
PREVENTION PLACE is over 3,000 square feet inclusive of office space for staff and a training facility that will host “FEELINGS FOREST” fieldtrips for students (lst-5th grade) where they will learn lessons in healthy living: bullying, self-esteem and self-confidence, decision making, coping skills, and the importance of treating others the way they would want to be treated. With the new site bordering several school districts (Detroit, Oak Park, Southfield, Farmington Hills and Farmington), we are beyond excited about this Oakland County site and its geographic benefits to reaching, teaching and impacting the lives of children from various school districts throughout the school year. Summer camps are also in the plans. Our BABES IN THE SCHOOLS (BITS) PROGRAM will also be available to these same school districts. Additional information about BITS is in this newsletter.
The training area will host groups of individuals interested in becoming Certified BABES Presenters, as well of those who now qualify to become BABES Trainers. Additionally, a special training curriculum is being completed for the purpose of training professionals who either work with children who have encountered traumatic experiences due to their parents’ substance abuse issues or those who are currently seeking degrees in areas that specifically work with children.
We are now gearing up for the first BABES Family Reunion/Convention to be hosted at this new site. This event is scheduled for August 19th-25, 2018. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Oakland County site will kick the seven-day event off – Sunday, August 19th. Other scheduled activities are posted in this newsletter.
