Students at Renaissance High School are currently training to be mentors for the BABES program.
In the training sessions, the students learn the stories of the BABES storybook while using the puppet characters. While one presenter tells his or her story, the remaining trainees behave as a child of the age given to them.
“I like this program because it actually gives you the opportunity to be able to read stories that can influence someone else in need of it [the lesson],” said trainee Alexus Roberts. “It’s very informational because you learn something new every time. My favorite part is that you get to put smiles on other people’s faces.”
Along with learning the BABESWORLD stories, the trainees learn songs, as well as life lessons for themselves.
“I like how the program doesn’t just help the kids, but it helps us,” said trainee Chandra Flemming. “I plan to help the children out, but also help myself out.”
